Newswise — European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič to visit Argonne National Laboratory

WHO: European Commission's Vice-President, Maroš Šefčovič, in charge of the Energy Union, will visit the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Ill. (USA) to learn more about Argonne’s capabilities in areas such as energy storage and smart cities and expand upon already existing collaboration between DOE laboratories and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).

WHAT: The Vice-President will visit Argonne directly following the seventh Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), which takes place June 1-2 in San Francisco. He will be the most senior European Commission representative at the CEM, which brings together some of the world’s largest and most forward-leaning countries to accelerate clean energy technologies, making good on their commitments at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris.

MORE: In October 2015, the European Interoperability Center for Electric Vehicles and Smart Grids was launched to help ensure the growing number of electric vehicles around the globe have standardized plugs and other equipment that can work anywhere. The new center, located in the Joint Research Centre's laboratories in Ispra, Italy, is a sister facility to the U.S. Electric Vehicle-Smart Grid Interoperability Center, which opened at Argonne in 2013.
