Pradeep K. Khosla Chancellor, University of California San Diego Pradeep K. Khosla, UC San Diego’s eighth Chancellor, is an internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer recognized for his seminal contributions in intelligent robot systems and design. He provides vision and strategy for the university, leading a campus with more than 35,000 students, six undergraduate colleges, five academic divisions, five graduate and professional schools, a preeminent Health System and the prestigious Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Khosla is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Engineering and the American Society for Engineering Education. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Association for Advancement of Science, the American Association of Artificial Intelligence and the Indian Academy of Engineering. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Indian Academy of Science. The recipient of numerous awards for his leadership, teaching and research, Khosla has received the 2012 Light of India Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the George Westinghouse Award for contributions to improve engineering teaching. In 2012, he was named as one of the 50 most influential Indian-Americans by SiliconIndia. Khosla received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur in 1980, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering in 1984 and 1986 at Carnegie Mellon. In 2014, he received an honorary doctorate of science from the Indian Institute of Technology - Kharagpur.

John-Paul Rue, M.D., is a fellowship-trained Board Certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, specializing in arthroscopic repair of sports-related injuries, including complex knee and shoulder reconstructions with Orthopedics and Joint Replacement at Mercy. Dr. John-Paul Rue specializes in the prevention and treatment of injuries related to sports and exercise. His primary focus is treating injuries of the knee, shoulder, and elbow, from ACL tears, meniscus and cartilage injuries to shoulder instability and rotator cuff injuries. As an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Rue is able to diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute and overuse injuries utilizing both surgical and non-operative techniques. Dr. Badura Brack teaches Abnormal, Health, and Introductory Psychology, and she supervises the psychology internship program at Creighton University. Dr. Badura Brack is developing and testing a version of Attention Training Treatment that appears efficacious in treating combat-related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as using magnetoencephalography (MEG) to identify regions where the brain functions abnormally in PTSD and determine if more normal neural functioning can be restored after attention training treatment.

Ernest Goss is the Jack MacAllister Chair in Regional Economics at Creighton University and served as the initial director for Creighton’s Institute for Economic Inquiry. He is also principal of the Goss Institute in Denver, Colo. Goss received his Ph.D. in economics from The University of Tennessee in 1983 and is a former faculty research fellow at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. He was a visiting scholar with the Congressional Budget Office for 2003-2004, and has testified before the U.S. Congress, the Kansas Legislature, and the Nebraska Legislature. In 2008, Heidi Zinzow joined Clemson’s College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, bringing her knowledge as a licensed clinical psychologist into the classroom. Her work addresses factors that put individuals at risk of developing psychological symptoms due to trauma exposure, how to ameliorate related mental health symptoms and what the protective factors are. Applying science to practice and vice versa, she focuses on the development of intervention and prevention programs to improve a victim’s well-being, quality of life, and occupational and social functioning. Zinzow’s in-depth understanding of different types of trauma spans sexual assault, interpersonal violence and mass violence. She examines trauma-related mental health outcomes including post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Additionally, she has moved into substance use disorders –and risky substance use –as a mechanism for violence perpetration and exposure. Another stream of her research is suicide prevention: how to develop efficacious programs that improve community members’ abilities to identify those at risk, ask difficult questions and provide support. With intervention and prevention program development, she examines technology-based tools such as virtual reality, online methodologies and digital apps to deliver programming. Along with other novel applications of technology to help advance the field, Zinzow looks at the role of social media and the propagation of harmful behavior. In clinical practice, she has analyzed intergenerational transmission of trauma, substance use and mental illness and how these variables affect each other. Working with the military, she has explored mental health and exposure to stress, combat and trauma, including military sexual assault. An as an expert consultant, she has investigated ways to work with communities to better address mass violence exposure. In collaboration, Zinzow has authored over 50 publications in scientific,peer-reviewed journals, which include “Journal of Traumatic Stress,” “Journal of Interpersonal Violence,” “Clinical Psychology Review” and “Journal of Clinical and Consulting Psychology.” She co-founded Tigers Together to Stop Suicide, currently serves as an expert consultant for the National Mass Violence and Victimization Resource Center, and helps lead Clemson's NSF Tigers ADVANCE initiative to improve campus gender equity. She has received an Emerging Scholar Research Excellence Award and Excellence in Service and Outreach Award, as well as an Outstanding Woman Faculty Member Award from the President's Commission on Women. Before joining Clemson, Zinzow completed a postdoctoral fellowship in traumatic stress with the National Crime Victims Research & Treatment Center at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). In addition to her practice as a licensed clinical psychologist, she has served at many domestic violence and sexual assault centers. In her early career, she worked as a research assistant for Caliber Associates in Northern Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C., evaluating social programs that addressed domestic violence, child maltreatment and juvenile delinquency.

Deborah A. Pasko, Pharm.D., M.H.A., is the Sr. Director of Medication Safety and Quality at ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). With more than 22 years of pharmacy practice experience, Dr. Pasko leads ASHP’s efforts to improve medication safety and reduce opioid misuse. Dr. Pasko’s role at ASHP includes working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the White House on national medication safety initiatives. She also serves as an advisor to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), the Joint Commission (TJC), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCC-MERP) safety committee, and the National Quality Forum (NQF). Dr. Pasko earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. For more than two decades Professor Roger Golgman has been helping states write and adopt laws that provide for removing the license or certificate of an officer who engages in serious misconduct, such as sexual assault and brutality. When Professor Goldman began to address the problem of unfit police officers’ moving from one department to another within a state, 15 states were without decertification/revocation laws. Today, only six states remain without revocation authority; he is now working with individuals in those states to enact such laws to keep bad officers off their streets. Professor Goldman’s ultimate goal is to help create a federally mandated national data bank of decertified police officers to prevent them from moving and being employed in a different state. Educated at Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Professor Goldman is also a leading expert on the U.S. Supreme Court and constitutional law. In addition to his many articles on police licensing, he is an author of three books on the U.S. Supreme Court: The Role of the Supreme Court in Protecting Civil Rights and Liberties; Justice William J. Brennan, Jr.: Freedom First; and Thurgood Marshall: Justice for All, which was a finalist for the 1992 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work. Dr. Ang has been the primary investigator of three National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded clinical trials in fibromyalgia.
