Newswise — The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) is pleased to announce Fred H. Gage, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, La Jolla, CA, USA, as the elected vice president of the ISSCR for the upcoming term. Dr. Gage will take on the presidency following the ISSCR 9th Annual Meeting in 2011. Irving L. Weissman, Stanford University School of Medicine, USA, will serve as president from July 2009 to June 2010, and Elaine Fuchs, Rockefeller University, USA, will hold the presidency from July 2010 to June 2011.

The ISSCR also welcomes Connie Eaves, Terry Fox Lab BC Cancer Agency, Canada, Haifan Lin, Yale University School of Medicine, USA, Christine Mummery, Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands, and David Scadden, Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Center for Regenerative Medicine, USA, who will join the ISSCR Board of Directors for their first appointments. Elected to serve for a second term on the board are Lawrence S.B. Goldstein, University of California, San Diego, USA, Ihor R. Lemischka, Mount Sinai Medical Center, USA, and Sean J. Morrison, University of Michigan Center for Stem Cell Biology, USA.

The appointees began their terms following the ISSCR 7th Annual Meeting in Barcelona, Spain, July 8-11, 2009.
