Newswise — The American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Radiology Leadership Institute™ (RLI) has announced a groundbreaking leadership development program called the RLI Expedition. This three-day, intensive and interactive experience will help radiology professionals define their leadership strengths and refine their leadership skills during a challenging, real-time simulation while receiving focused feedback from trained coaches. Now open for registration, the first RLI Expedition will take place Feb. 22-24, 2013, at the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas and is limited to 24 participants.

Unlike no other leadership program — in or out of radiology — the RLI Expedition is designed around the four learning principles: reflection, theoretical knowledge, skills and experience. Through a carefully constructed series of sessions that blend input on the latest leadership thinking, peer work in small groups, video, and individual coaching, participants will balance thought-provoking debate and analysis with self-reflection and personal development. Key program components include pre- and post-program work; skill development; leadership perspectives; application and experience; and feedback and reflection.

A fundamental part of the program is a simulation that subjects participants to high-pressure, complex interactions in which they must show leadership in the moment. The customized simulation replicates a “day in the life” of a radiology professional and presents participants, acting individually and in teams, with a series of interlinked leadership challenges. The overall scenario is fictitious, but the challenges are entirely realistic and specific to radiology.

“Leadership is a journey which requires reflection, knowledge acquisition, practice and continuous feedback. Through a series of powerful learning experiences, the RLI Expedition will help participants to identify and develop a leadership style that is aligned with their personal values and preferences — within the unique context and demands of the health profession,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, FACR, medical director of the RLI and chair of the ACR Commission on Leadership and Practice Development. Participants must be enrolled in RLI in order to register for the RLI Expedition.
