Air Travel During Pregnancy

Spring is in the air but should pregnant moms be? With spring break and travel season in full bloom, many moms-to-be may be wondering whether boarding a plane is a good idea. "When there are no medical or obstetrical complications, is it generally agreed that a woman may travel safely by air up to 36 weeks of gestation," says Penelope Bosarge, MSN, certified registered nurse practitioner. "However, women who have significant obstetrical factors such as placental abnormalities or who are at risk for pre-term labor should not travel by air." Other tips: Take occasional walks to ward off blood clots and keep your seat belt fastened while seated to avoid injury during turbulence.
