Botox Boom
These are boom times for botox, those injections that smooth deep facial wrinkles such as worry lines. UAB dermatologist Conway Huang, M.D., believes patients are flocking to doctors for botox "because you can get a noticeable, immediate improvement in facial appearance relatively cheaply -- more bang for your buck. And, it's a lunch-hour procedure, meaning there's no down time." Procedures such as microdermabrasion give an effect so subtle it may not be noticeable without close examination, and laser resurfacing requires several days off work. An added benefit: some patients prone to headaches find they diminish after the botox injections. The botox effect is temporary, so if a patient doesn't like their appearance, it can be redone.
