Newswise — CHICAGO – A team of students from Cornell University has been named the winner in the Mars/Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) and Mars Product Development Competition during the IFT 2013 Annual Meeting and Food Expo in Chicago.
The goal of this competition was to challenge IFTSA members with creating a new food product and carrying the concept through marketing and production, much like a commercial product development team. Judges evaluated the potential success of product entries in today's market, and technical problem solving skills used in product development.
Cornell University students developed Squashetti, a lean, gluten-free frozen meal featuring a spaghetti squash base topped with grilled chicken and a zesty pomodoro sauce. Team members included: Kyle Clark (team captain), Alexander Brown, Shan Huang, Susana Jimenez, Erin Kuhl, Wanyu Li, Rebecca Mangona, Katherine Strickland, Olivia Weihe, Mengjiao Yang, and Clare Zoellner.
The winning team received a check for $4,000.
