Newswise — Research is currently underway at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore on three drugs for patients suffering from coronary artery disease that do not respond to clopidogrel (Plavix). The research compares experimental drugs, including Prasugrel, to clopidogrel for treatment in the prevention of clot formation for people who have demonstrated signs and symptoms of abruptly decreased blood flow to the heart called "acute coronary syndrome" (ACS).

The research is being carried out to see how well the drugs, given in addition to clopidogrel and aspirin, works on preventing blood clots.

"This study will help the scientific community in finding ways to better medically treat coronary artery disease and reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, and urgent coronary cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, and urgent coronary revascularization," said Dr. Paul Gurbel, the lead investigator for the study.
