UAB's School Asthma project is launching its second phase with an elementary school trial to see if bringing doctors to schools is better than scheduling traditional office visits to reach children with undiagnosed asthma.

"We're going to bring a full-service asthma clinic to the test schools with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and nurse practitioners," says Lynn Gerald, Ph.D., of UAB's Lung Health Center. "We want to see if it's easier for parents and children if the children are seen by the medical team in the school setting rather than in a hospital or doctor's office."

It's estimated that 6-10 percent of children in America have asthma, and many are undiagnosed.
