Dollars and Heart Sense

Watching the amount of cholesterol and saturated fat in your diet can do more than save your heart, it can save money, too. "Foods that are high in saturated fat and cholesterol tend to be on the expensive side, including meats, snacks and some baked goods," says Sharon Saber, clinical nutrition manager for UAB Hospital. Increasing your intake of fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes while limiting the amount of meat and dairy products you consume can reduce your food bill and improve the condition of your heart. February is National Heart Month.
