Don't Crowd Newborns

To keep your baby healthy through the holidays, resist the urge to take your newborn to large gatherings, advises UAB pediatrician Carolyn Ashworth, M.D. The holiday season is a time of parties, and you may want to show your new baby to friends and relatives. "Family gatherings and church festivals, where your baby might come in contact with people who are sick and don't know it are not good places to take newborns and infants. We usually recommend that during the winter, with the cold and flu season upon us, little ones stay away from large gatherings where they can get exposed to germs, particularly if they were premature or are under two months old."
