Newswise — UAB Associate Professor of Engineering Virginia Sisiopiku, Ph.D., has received a grant from the University Transportation Center of Alabama to develop a new traffic simulation and assignment tool to assist engineers and policy makers in effective planning and design of emergency transportation routes during disasters and other incidents. "It will help overcome the limitations of existing models by capturing the dynamics of real-time routing behavior associated with traffic peak periods and incident conditions." Additionally, an incident management case study will be developed as will a case study for emergency analysis. These will provide an opportunity for training of related emergency agencies, evaluation of various emergency alternatives and provide feedback from each event.
