Flu Shots Don't Trigger Asthma

New research indicates that flu shots are safe for people with asthma, regardless of the severity of the asthma. The findings, published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, are the result of clinical studies in 19 American Lung Association Asthma Clinical Research Centers nationwide, including UAB. "This study gives us firm evidence that flu shots don't trigger asthma," says William Bailey, M.D., director of UAB's Lung Health Center. "In fact, influenza can be dangerous for people with asthma, and can bring on an asthma attack, so we urge all those with asthma to get flu shots this winter."
