Newswise — The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) kicks off this year's IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo® in Chicago, Ill. from July 17-20, 2010 to highlight the latest innovations in food science and technology. This year the IFT Food Expo has sold out with over a 1,000 companies exhibiting in more the 2,100+ booths in the 230,000 net square feet at Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center. Total attendance is expected to be over 20,000.
This one-of-a-kind event brings together all those involved in the science of food and the business of food and features noted experts in the food science profession from industry, academia and government. The scientific sessions highlight the latest research while the Food Expo features the hottest trends in the science of food.
The Food Expo attracts the largest number of global food suppliers in North America. New this year is networkNow!, a new online matchmaking tool designed to empower attendees and exhibitors and increase ROI at the show. The easy-to-use matching, searching and visualization tools enable attendees to quickly identify other members with whom they would like to exchange knowledge, develop a business partnership or share best practices. This free service allows one to schedule meetings before, during and after the show, search for products and sessions, create a personalized, printable show floor plan and more!
Additional Food Expo highlights include the Trend & Solution Tours, which made their debut last year. These self-guided tours accompanied with print guides make it easy to focus on specific areas of interest on the expo floor. Themes for this year's tours are as follows: "Taste Modification," "Ingredients for Functional Foods," "Reducing Formulation Costs," "Weight Management," and "Food Safety."
In addition, there's an array of educational, informational, and professional opportunities at the Annual Meeting's Scientific Program. With about 115 sessions and 1,900 technical presentations slated, this program is unparalleled in terms of the breadth and depth of content.
This year, IFT has a new format for scientific sessions featuring new key focus area program tracks. These include: Food Safety & Defense; Food, Health & Nutrition, Emerging Technologies & Ingredient Innovations, Food Processing & Packaging, Product Development, Sustainability, Public Policy, Food Laws & Regulations, and Education and Professional Development. This year's speaker at the Annual Meeting Keynote Session is Daniel Pink, best-selling author of the book, A Whole New Mind. In his book, Pink uses four decades of behavioral research to reveal why the traditional approach to high performance backfires on most organizations. Â His presentation will focus on what the science of motivation can teach companies about the science of high performance. Pink is a contributing editor to Wired magazine, a frequent guest on television and radio programs and a consultant to companies in the areas of human resources, communication and innovation.
