Urinary problems should not be accepted as a normal part of aging, yet fewer than 50 percent of those with bladder control problems and other pelvic floor disorders report them to their health care provider.

UAB gynecologist Holly Richter, M.D., says there are many new treatment options available, including new medications, behavioral therapy with the use of biofeedback and electrical stimulation, pessaries (devices put into the vagina to help with incontinence and prolapse), and new, less-invasive surgery procedures.

Richter says many women don't report problems because they are embarrassed, don't know about the many options available and their succeses.
