No Boo-Hoo On Halloween

Halloween doesn't have to be scary for parents, says Tara Dortch, M.S., of UAB's Think First injury prevention program. "There are a number of simple, common-sense tips parents can employ to ensure that their children enjoy Halloween trick or treating safely." Dortch recommends kids stay in well-lighted and familiar areas, use reflective tape on costumes and take a flashlight. Parents should make sure hats or other headgear can't slip down and block a child's vision. And don't let kids run from house to house across a darkened lawn. Ornaments, clotheslines and shrubs may be hard to see in the dark.
