New Branding Reflects IFT’s Role as a Catalyst for the Science of Food

Newswise — The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) today announced the launch of a new website that will serve as a comprehensive digital resource for all those interested in the science of food, while offering IFT members new functionality that enables them to participate in a secure community focused exclusively on issues important to the food science and technology profession.

“This is an important digital milestone for IFT, because it provides the members of our profession with more job-critical resources, easier access to scientific and educational offerings, and an all new community-building and information-sharing capability,” said IFT President Marianne Gillette.The site also features a completely new visual identity that reflects IFT’s critical role as a catalyst for innovation and its 70-year commitment to ensuring that food is safe, nutritious, healthful and plentiful worldwide. This new visual identity is reflected in a variety of IFT products—from Food Technology magazine and the Journal of Food Science to online courses and scientific reports, and more.

Building upon these trusted scientific resources, the site includes new functionality and features important to food scientists in academia, industry and government. A new video highlights many of the new features available for members, including:

A new community area to learn, collaborate and share expertise Food science and technology transcends borders and time zones. With the new site, interacting and collaborating with other food science professionals from around the world will now be easier. Through this secure new community area, members can participate in discussions, pose questions and share expertise ― all in real-time.

An enhanced Knowledge Center organized by focus areas and core sciencesThe site features the latest information about the science of food - and its application - related to focus areas such as Food Safety and Defense, Food Health and Nutrition, Technologies and Ingredients, and Public Policy and Regulations.

Breaking news and expanded multimedia resources The latest news on food science is available through RSS feeds for IFT’s Daily News, the new IFT Policy and Regulatory Roundup, and additional multimedia offerings that highlight everything from new food products to a “day in the life” of a food scientist at NASA.

A new online membership directoryIFT members will be able to create enhanced member profiles to identify personal interests as well as to re-connect with former colleagues or locate old classmates. They also can find other IFT members who are nearby, share common interests or have expertise in a particular subject area.In addition to new features for members, the public will be able to better access IFT publications, government officials can gain scientific perspectives that impact policy developments, the media can find useful ideas for food stories, and consumers can now learn how food science impacts their lives every day.
