Newswise — Robert W. Panton, MD, FACS, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital ophthalmologist, has been re-elected vice speaker of the Illinois State Medical Society (ISMS) during the group’s annual meeting in Springfield, Illinois. A member of the ISMS since 1987, Dr. Panton serves on the Board of Trustees and as a delegate to the ISMS House of Delegates. He has previously chaired the Governmental Affairs Council and currently serves as a member of the Council on Economics. Dr. Panton, of River Forest, was president of the Chicago Medical Society from 2013-2014. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Panton is board-certified in ophthalmology and has been an admitting physician at Gottlieb since 1993. A graduate of Brown University Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, Dr. Panton completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He served a fellowship in cornea and anterior segment surgery at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
