Stroke Rehab Regimen

Marking what has been called a 'paradigm shift' in rehab medicine, the UAB Taub Training Clinic has opened its doors to provide Constraint Induced Therapy (CI), developed by UAB neuroscientist Edward Taub, Ph.D., for stroke patients. Taub developed CI Therapy to help stroke patients regain use of their affected limbs. "The therapy involves rigorous physical therapy and intense, repetitive practice, which induces the brain to re-wire the mental circuits lost in the aftermath of a stroke." says Taub. Taub believes the therapy, a radical departure from traditional rehabilitation practices, has potential applications for traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and even congenital developmental disorders.
