Trimming the Milk Mustache

Got osteoporosis? Then drink milk. At least that's the message from the dairy industry and the USDA. Other groups say milk is not necessarily as good for us as might be believed.

"There are two schools of thought: one says milk is the enemy, the other says you have to drink milk to be healthy," says UAB registered dietitian Beth Kitchin. "What's undisputed is that calcium is important in preventing osteoporosis, and milk is a good source of calcium. If you like milk, drink it. If you don't, there are other sources of calcium, including broccoli, collard greens, calcium supplements and calcium fortified orange juice, cereals and breads.
