AMGA Urges CMS to Release CPC+ Payment Formula

Newswise — Alexandria, VA –AMGA today sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requesting the agency publish its “methodology paper” that will describe how the Comprehensive Primary Care + (CPC+) prepaid and repayment amounts will be calculated under the demonstration.

CMS noted in an August 1 document that it is preparing the “methodology paper,” but did not note when the document will be published. CMS has yet to release this report, despite the fact that provider applications are due in three weeks, or by September 15, 2016. AMGA stated in the letter that its members wishing to participate in the CPC+ model should be fully informed before they can responsibly decide whether to participate in the demonstration.

“CMS is risking lower participation in the CPC+ demo if the agency does not provide these details in a timely manner,” said Donald W. Fisher, Ph.D., CAE, AMGA’s president and chief executive officer. “There is a risk of repeating the mistake made in launching the Next Generation ACO demonstration, when providers were not made aware of their financial benchmark and historical spending data until a few weeks prior to the demo’s start date, forcing some providers to forgo or delay participation.”

AMGA’s letter is available here.
