Waistband Motivator

One way to watch your waistline this holiday season is to use a pedometer. "It's like wearing a personal trainer on your waistband," says UAB EatRight Coordinator Suzanne Henson, R.D. A pedometer is a lightweight step-counter that can be worn on a belt to keep up with daily activity. "A pedometer is an excellent, inexpensive motivator. When you wear one all day, you can see how many steps you take during a normal day and soon you'll look for ways to get in extra steps." Most experts recommend a daily goal of 6,000 steps (about one mile) for health benefits and 10,000 steps for weight loss. UAB EatRight is a weight management program that includes healthy eating and daily exercise.
