When To Look for a New Doctor

Developing a good relationship with your physician, one in which you feel comfortable talking openly and honestly, is key to achieving good health and a maximum quality of life, says Mark A. Stafford, M.D., internal medicine physician at UAB. "For a doctor to provide the best care, a patient must feel comfortable sharing information with the doctor. If a patient doesn't feel comfortable talking with his or her doctor after three visits and doesn't feel the relationship is improving, it may be in the patient's best interest to consider a new physician. Patients shouldn't feel bad about that. It's important to have a comfortable, working relationship with your physician."
