Newswise — To continue meeting the ever-advancing technological needs of our patients, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has debuted MyMSK, a new mobile application. The app, compatible with iPad, iPhone, and all iOS devices, allows MSK patients to quickly and easily access their lab and radiology results, view their upcoming appointments, record their medications and symptoms in online diaries, communicate with their healthcare team, and more.

MyMSK draws from the MyMSK Patient Portal, a personalized online desktop application that MSK patients can use to securely access information about their care. Through this new app, users will have the ability to access features that until now were available only through the MyMSK Patient Portal desktop platform, as well as an extensive set of new features designed specifically for mobile use.

The new application was successfully beta tested with 25 patients throughout the fall of 2014 at MSK’s 64th Street Innovation Center. “This app is groundbreaking in that it provides an even more holistic approach to care. It stays with patients, wherever they are,” explains medical oncologist Paul Hamlin, MD, whose patients tested it. “The app will help patients throughout their experience with treatment.” Additional features on the mobile app include:

• access to lab and radiology results • calendar of upcoming appointments and directions to locations• ability to message healthcare teams (both MSK and non-MSK) • medication reminders and diary• symptom diary • vitals diary• ability to selectively share treatment information with non-MSK care providers

“Whether they’re tracking their medications, using the app to manage their appointments, or checking their lab results from the waiting room, we are seeing patients benefit from using the app on a daily basis,” says medical oncologist Andrew Zelenetz, MD. “We also see the potential to support our patients in deeper ways in future iterations of the app.” MyMSK was designed by the Design Innovation Group at Memorial Sloan Kettering in collaboration with Moment, a digital product design consultancy, and was developed by a cross-departmental team at MSK.

The app can be downloaded from the iTunes Store here.
