Newswise — (NEW YORK CITY – July 13, 2015) In recognition of its innovative use of information technology to improve value-based health care, the Mount Sinai Health System was named a 2015 “Most Wired™” organization by the American Hospital Association and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. Mount Sinai – the only academic medical center so honored in New York City – was lauded for its implementation of IT initiatives in the areas of infrastructure, quality, safety, and clinical integration.

“We’re proud to be recognized with this prestigious award,” said Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mount Sinai Health System. “Information technology is a key component of improving the patient experience and helping to ensure good patient outcomes. From bedside apps for our inpatients to remote consults and other services via our Telehealth offerings, innovation in IT makes the change from fee-for-service health care to population health management possible. We congratulate our IT staff on a job truly well done.”

The Mount Sinai Health System comprises seven hospitals and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, along with scores of affiliates and practices. As an organization, Mount Sinai is focused on a more integrated, value-based care delivery system, and is committed to utilizing information technology to better facilitate information exchange across care settings. This includes investing in our electronic health record systems, facilitating communication between patients and providers, creating platforms to seamlessly share information between clinicians across multiple facilities, and leveraging new technologies.

“We are honored that MSHS is the only academic medical center in New York City that was selected for the 2015 Most Wired™ award,” said Kumar Chatani, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Mount Sinai Health System. “By making substantial investments in technology, we help improve outcomes for our patients, which remains our top priority.”

The survey and benchmarking study is a leading industry barometer measuring IT use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. The survey of more than 741 participants, representing more than 2,213 hospitals, examined how organizations are leveraging IT to improve patient outcomes.

“We commend and congratulate this year’s Most Wired hospitals and their CIOs for improving care delivery and outcomes in our nation’s hospitals through their creative and revolutionary uses of technology,” said CHIME CEO and President Russell P. Branzell, FCHIME CHCIO. “These Most Wired organizations represent excellence in IT leadership on the frontlines of healthcare transformation.”

HealthCare’s Most Wired™ Survey, conducted between January 15 and March 15, 2015, is published annually by Health & Hospitals Network. Respondents completed 741 surveys, representing more than 39 percent of all U.S. hospitals. Last October, the AHA/Health Forum and CHIME announced the formation of a Most Wired partnership to enhance collaboration between the two organizations in the development and sustainability of the survey, and to collectively help meet the growing demand for useful data on health IT integration.
