Newswise — NYU School of Medicine is pleased to announce it is #14 in the nation for research, and #2 in New York, out of 130 medical schools on the 2016 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” rankings, issued today. This is the first time that the school appears in the top-15 of institutions by U.S. News, and is a significant jump from #34 in 2007.

U.S. News & World Report uses a range of statistical factors to evaluate a school’s faculty, students, and research enterprise. The analysis includes assessments by deans and residency directors, research funding, and the grade-point averages and MCAT scores for incoming students. A key factor in the school’s top-15 ranking was its large jump in research funding in 2014, the last full year reported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Other aspects include an increase in the median MCAT score and undergraduate GPA for admitted students.
NYU School of Medicine has earned national attention in recent years for re-imagining medical education to address the needs of future physicians. In fact, this year NYU School of Medicine launched a new Health Care by the Numbers curriculum, with support from the American Medical Association (AMA), that exposes medical students to clinical data across NYU Langone’s physician network of practices and charges students to think about healthcare cost and quality from a population perspective. NYU School of Medicine is also known for the importance it places on providing individualized education, such as its three-year MD and dual degree programs. These rankings represent a growing number of accolades the Medical Center has recently received. Of note, earlier this year U.S. News & World Report named NYU Langone to its 2014-15 “Best Hospitals” Honor Roll, and designated 13 specialties to its national listings. In a rare and exciting synergy both our School and Medical Center rank second among peers in New York. The Medical Center also again ranked number one for overall patient safety and quality according to UHC 2014 Quality and Accountability Study and received a Gold Seal of Approval by The Joint Commission, reflecting a commitment to high quality care.
