The American Neurological Association (ANA), the professional organization representing the nation’s top academic neurologists and neuroscientists, has announced the key areas of science to be explored at its 144th Annual Meeting, October 13-15, 2019 at the Marriott St. Louis Grand. More than 900 of the nation’s top academic neurologists as well as students, trainees, and international professionals will convene for three days of research communication at the forefront of neurology and neuroscience.
“The 2019 ANA Annual Meeting will feature a slate of presentations highlighting the most exciting breakthroughs and leading concepts across the field,” said M. Elizabeth Ross, MD, PhD; ANA Scientific Program Advisory Committee Chair; Nathan Cummings Professor; Head, Laboratory of Neurogenetics; and Development Director, Center for Neurogenetics at Weill Cornell Medicine. “The sessions encompass cutting-edge basic science and the near and present translation of these advances to neurological care."
The meeting will also feature the second annual media roundtable at which symposia chairs will present highlights, discuss the relevance of the work and answer questions.
ANA2019 Sessions include:
- The Pre-Meeting Symposium (Oct. 12) will report recent advances in the application of Brain-Computer Interfaces toward the creation of prosthetics to serve speech, sensory processing, and motor control.
- The Presidential Symposium will share new insights into inherited and late-onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The session will cover the emerging role of the innate immune system in AD expression, the latest biomarkers, and their contributions to current therapeutic trials.
- Plenary Sessions will focus on:
- Role of the gut microbiome in neurological diseases including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke.
- Advances in regenerative medicine with a focus on synaptic plasticity and neural repair after brain injury.
- Language development and dysfunction as a component of a broad swath of neurological disorders, presenting the latest therapeutic approaches from intense behavioral interventions to non-invasive brain stimulation.
- Strategies for optimizing clinical trials, from ensuring appropriate diversity in study subject selection to innovative approaches to outcomes assessment.
The Advance Program of the ANA Annual Meeting will be available in April 2019, and embargoed abstracts will be made available to the media on Friday, October 4, 2019.
