Is Miralax Toxic for Children?

Dr. Steve Hodges, pediatric urologist, specializes in treating childhood “potty” issues, including chronic constipation that can require treatments such as Miralax. In a recent blog post, he addresses the recent NY Times article and FDA study of the active ingredient in Miralax. Hodges discusses why the drug is used, its benefits and limits, and scientific evidence regarding the drug. His message: There is an epidemic of childhood pediatric constipation that requires treatment. While he doesn’t currently recommended that parents stop giving the drug to their children, his hope is that the debate about its safety will result in better preventions and treatment options.
