About Chikungunya Virus: Chikungunya virus (CHKV) belongs to the alphavirus genus and is an arboviral human pathogen transmitted through the mosquito strains: Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. It is endemic in Africa, Asia and due to climate change, is expanding its reach It is clinically very similar to Dengue and therefore there is a need for differential diagnostic tools for the management of the disease. Antibodies specific for CHKV can be used for the development of the differential diagnostics as well as for surveillance of the mosquito population to predict and manage outbreaks. Beginning in 2014, cases were identified in U.S. travelers ret urning from the Caribbean.(Centers for Disease Control, retrieved August 18, 2014)
