Josh Klapow, Ph.D., clinical psychologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, says journalists everywhere will be affected by the shooting of a news crew in Virginia.

"The sad fact is that this may have a significant impact on them for the near future. Time can heal wounds, but psychological and social support are critical. This event may change the face of in-the field-reporting. Reporters and photographers are resilient individuals who are after the story, and are on the front line of our information system. That being said, hesitation, fear, feelings of anxiety, and sadness, as they go on with their jobs regardless of where they are in the country will likely be present."

Klapow is available by phone or via UAB's broadcast studio.
