Newswise — The Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) is the largest gathering of eye and vision researchers in the world, with over 11,000 attendees from more than 75 countries. Two free events will feature speakers highlighting recent successes — and emerging threats — facing ophthalmic clinicians and researchers around the world.
What and Why: Outbreaks: The global ophthalmic threat of Ebola, Zika and other virusesWorld-renowned ophthalmologists will describe how the eye can contribute to understanding virus mechanisms and developing future treatments. Speakers will provide scientific, clinical and humanitarian perspectives; highlight current understanding of Zika, Ebola and West Nile diseases; and discuss the importance of strengthening vision health systems globally.
