Newswise — ARLINGTON, VA. (August 16, 2016)–Christopher R. McCurdy, Ph.D., R.Ph., FAAPS, of the University of Mississippi, has been elected to serve as president-elect of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), a professional member-based organization of approximately 9,000 located in Arlington, VA. He will begin a three-year term on the AAPS Executive Council (as president-elect, president, and immediate past president) in November of this year at the 2016 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition in Denver. The meeting anticipates an attendance of over 7,000 pharmaceutical scientists from around the world.

“Christopher R. McCurdy will truly be an asset as president-elect of the association,” said Walt Marlowe, CAE, executive director of AAPS. “He is a proven leader that will move the strategic plan forward to best serve member needs. I know we’re all looking forward to working with Chris as president-elect.”

Dr. McCurdy noted in his election bulletin, “Having been a highly-involved member of AAPS over the last 15 years, I have a strong desire to continue supporting the organization that I feel is the most important to the interests of pharmaceutical scientists and educators. As president-elect, continued support and implementation of the new strategic plan, in order to guide the organization to greater heights and strength, is of highest importance."

In addition to the new president-elect, Annette Bak, Ph.D., M.B.A., AstraZeneca, and Bernd W. Meibohm, Ph.D., F.C.P., FAAPS, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, were elected AAPS Members-at-Large. They join fellow Members-at-Large Robert L. Chapman, Ph.D., Joseph W. Polli, Ph.D., FAAPS, Stacey J. Tannenbaum, Ph.D., Treasurer William E. Weiser, Ph.D., President Binodh S. DeSilva, Ph.D., and Immediate Past President Gregory E. Amidon, Ph.D. as the remaining members on the 2016 AAPS Executive Council.
