Toxic methane appears to be bubbling up from ocean vents off the Washington and Oregon coast.

This is according to a new study which claims warming ocean temperatures a third of a mile below the surface are triggering the bubbles.

At this depth frozen pockets of methane 'ice' transition from a dormant solid to methane gas - believed to be the second-largest greenhouse gas contributor to climate change.
