Jersey Shore University Medical Center and the Board of Commissioners of the Township of Neptune Housing Authority (TNHA) will break ground on Monday, November 18, 2013 on 50 new senior housing units for the residents of the John Knox Senior Housing Complex, currently located on Davis Avenue. The new housing complex will be built on two diagonal parcels of land, situated on Neptune Boulevard and Taylor Avenue. Mark Martens, M.D., chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, announces that the hospital is participating in a clinical study to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of an investigational vaccine for the prevention of primary symptomatic Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a potentially life-threatening, spore-forming bacterium that causes intestinal disease. While most types of health care-associated infections (HAIs) are declining, C. diff is emerging as a leading cause of life-threatening, HAIs worldwide.

Alexander Shifrin, M.D., FACS, FACE, Endocrine Surgeon at Jersey Shore, will present at the 2nd World Congress on Thyroid Cancer, taking place July 10 through July 14, 2013 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Shifrin’s oral presentation, entitled Assessment of Molecular Markers on Preoperative FNA Biopsies of Metastatic Lymph Nodes from Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma and Correlation with the Primary Thyroid Tumor: The Feasibility Study, is scheduled to take place during the conference on Friday, July 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
